Right in the heart of the big impressive cliffs there is Fakistra beach; a lovely turquoise bay with with coarse sand, mixed with pebbles. This little bay can be described as a typical example of the wild beauty of the Greek countryside.
The fine sandy beach with small pebbles approaches the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea. Although the beach is not well equipped the natural beauty impresses the most demanding visitors. Here you can visit the awesome sea cave of Panagia Megalomata on the north part where the stalactites make it extremely unique. An interesting fact is that some scenes from the Hollywood movie Mamma Mia! were filmed here back in 2008.
When on this beach, you should know one thing – the seabed is quite rocky around the shore, but when it’s windy and there are waves, the rocks can not be seen. In calm weather the sea is quite transparent, and you can clearly see even the smallest pebbles and stones.
Last but not least the scenery is enriched by an impressive cascade behind the beach and the densely-vegetated paths leading to the areas of Damouhari and Agios Ioannis.
